Joining the juggernaut of Walmart Marketplace is very exciting – it’s an e-commerce platform on the rise, with loyal customers, and plenty of opportunities for brands to connect with millions of new shoppers.

Like all marketplaces, Walmart has its own rules, and specific requirements to comply with, before you’re even selling live on the platform.

We’ve compiled a list of the top 5 things you need to do before you start selling on Walmart:

  1. Eligibility requirements: Walmart has specific eligibility requirements that sellers must meet before they can sell on their platform. These requirements include having a US business entity, providing valid tax identification, meeting minimum seller standards, and having a good reputation with customers (such as a history of marketplace or e-commerce success).

  2. Prohibited Products Policy: You need to make sure that none of your products appear on Walmart Marketplace’s Prohibited Products Policy. Some of these products can include hazardous materials, alcohol, certain types of food, offensive products and more. During your Walmart set up process, thoroughly review the list – if you have just one of these items in your product category, your Walmart Marketplace application will be denied.
  1. Product listing and optimisation: Walmart Marketplace requires sellers to create product listings that meet specific requirements, such as providing high-quality images, accurate product descriptions, and competitive pricing. For increased visibility and sales, optimising product listings with keywords and attributes is key to successful Walmart Marketplace selling.

  2. Fulfilment options: Walmart offers Walmart Fulfilment Services (WFS) which is an end-to-end service for Walmart Marketplace Sellers. Once set up, WFS allows you to ship your inventory to a WFS facility, and WFS will then store, pick, pack and ship your orders. If WFS isn’t for you, various other fulfilment options are available for sellers, including self-fulfilment, third-party fulfilment, and dropshipping. Sellers should consider which option is best for their business based on factors such as cost, efficiency, and customer experience.

  3. Customer service and reviews: Walmart Marketplace places a strong emphasis on customer service and reviews. Sellers should strive to provide excellent customer service, respond quickly to customer inquiries, and resolve issues promptly. Positive reviews can help increase sales and improve a seller’s reputation on the platform.
